What is a Mid-Year Reset
A mid-year reset allows you to reflect on your progress, make any needed adjustments, and refocus on your goals. It's an opportunity to re-evaluate your priorities and ensure that you are still aligned with your long-term objectives.
Benefits of a Mid-Year Reset and Why is it Important
A mid-year reset is important for several reasons:
1. It allows you to reflect on your progress
A mid-year reset allows you to assess your progress towards your annual goals. It's an opportunity to celebrate your wins no matter how small or big they are, and identify areas where you may have fallen short. This reflection can provide valuable insight into how you will spend the rest of the year.
2. It helps you realign your priorities
As the year progresses, our priorities may shift due to changing circumstances or new opportunities. A mid-year reset gives you the chance to reevaluate your priorities and realign them with our current objectives. This ensures that your efforts are focused on your most important tasks and goals for the remainder of the year.
3. It enables you to adjust your goals
Occasionally, we may find that the goals we established at the beginning of the year are either overly ambitious or not feasible for us to accomplish. Implementing a mid-year reset gives you the opportunity to adapt your goals to fit your current circumstances, resources, and abilities. This adaptability empowers you to establish practical and attainable objectives for the remainder of the year.
4. It can address any challenges
By mid-year, we may encounter unexpected challenges that affect our progress. A mid-year reset allows us to identify these challenges, develop strategies to overcome them, and find solutions to move forward.
5. It can motivate us for the future
A mid-year reset can reignite our motivation and enthusiasm by providing a fresh start and renewed focus. It allows you to approach the second half of the year with a renewed sense of purpose and energy, which can be invaluable for maintaining momentum and achieving our life goals.
How to Do a Mid-Year Reset - 5-Step Mid-Year Reset
At the beginning of this month, I shared my personal mid-year reset. I am a strong advocate for mid-year resets as they help me gain clarity about my goals for the remainder of the year. While I typically set ambitious targets at the start of the year, the mid-year reset allows me to assess my progress and make any necessary adjustments.
Here's an overview of my 5-step mid-year reset process:
Step 1. Reflection
I dedicate a day to do my mid-year reset wherein I start with a reflection. I look back at the goals I set at the beginning of the year and evaluate what I have achieved, what haven’t been accomplished, and what I will no longer pursue for the remainder of the year.
During the reflection step, I also create a journal entry and freely write what I felt so far in the current year. Am I happy with how I spent my time, money, and energy? Are there any regrets I need to take note of? I also try to identify any of the challenges I faced.
Step 2. Let go
The next step is letting go. This is when I release the negative energy, forgive myself, and let go of any regrets and grudges I had over the past months. I also incorporate some cleaning during this time just for mental clarity like cleaning my physical space especially the areas where I spend most of my time - home office and bedroom.
Step 3. Redefine your goals
Now that you've had a chance to reflect and let go of the past, it's time to redefine your goals for the second half of the year. Take a look at the goals you set earlier and haven't yet achieved. Review what you will continue to work on, make adjustments, or set new goals if needed.
For example, if you had aimed to read 12 books by the end of the year but have only finished 3 books so far, consider if you want to stick with the original goal or adjust it to a more attainable number.

Step 4. Create a New Action Plan
Breaking down your larger goals into smaller, manageable steps can help set the tone for the coming months. This approach creates an action plan.
For example, if your goal is to read 9 books before the year ends, aiming to finish 2-3 books per month can be a practical step. Choosing the books in advance can also reduce decision fatigue and get you started on your reading goals sooner.
It's also beneficial to establish new habits that align with your objectives. Identifying these habits and integrating them into your daily routine can facilitate progress towards your year-end goals.
Step 5. Celebrate and Adjust
Finally, remember to celebrate the progress you've made in the first half of the year, no matter how small the wins may seem. Take the time to acknowledge and appreciate your achievements, no matter how minor, as they all contribute to your overall growth and success. This positive reinforcement can provide motivation and encouragement to continue working towards your goals in the second half of the year.
Remember, a mid-year reset is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself and enjoy the process of growth and transformation.
