As you may know by now, I am a big fan of the Korean Skincare regimen.
I’ve blogged about it a couple of times sharing the complete step-by-step procedure on how to do it and the must buy K-Beauty skincare products ever.
There’s something about the Korean Skincare Routine that makes any person hooked. Despite of lengthy procedure and the rather expensive products needed, one can’t deny how effective following the routine is.
The chok-chok skin is R-E-A-L.
Part of the Korean skincare routine is the double-cleansing and in today’s post I’d like to share to you how I’ve adopted it on my own and the four second cleansers I am currently using.
What is Double Cleansing?
Double cleansing is the process of using two different types of cleanser to properly and thoroughly clean the face.
First with an oil-based cleanser.
Cleansing oils are good product to invest if you wear heavy makeup on an everyday basis. This is also recommended for those who use waterproof eye makeup or smudge-proof liquid lipsticks.
I highly recommend Biore Cleansing Oil, part of my BeautyMNL Haul, if you want to try a budget-friend cleansing oil. Also try Human Nature’s Sun Flower Oil!
For those who can avail, Banana Co. Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm is also a highly-recommended product.
Then followed by a second cleanser which can either be foam or cream-based.
The second cleanser acts as an effective way to draw out impurities, pollutants and anything that that the oil-based cleanser missed.
Why should I bother to Double Cleanse?
When I went to Korea last May, I really saw for real how A-MAZ-ING the Korean skin can be. They are all flawless, spotless, and poreless.
The makeup only accentuates their faces, if you look up close and personal you will see their skin is really good and healthy.
Apparently, double cleansing is not just a “kaartehan”. It has a scientific basis.
You need to use an oil-based cleanser first to make sure that oil-based debris such as sebum, makeup, SPF and other products with oil in it be removed.
If you used water-based product, which most second cleansers are based from, they won’t be as effective. As we all know oil and water never mix.
As soon as the oil-based debris are removed, the second cleansers further make sure you have a squeaky-clean face.
Even if you don’t wear makeup, double-cleansing is still effective because you want oils and impurities to be thoroughly removed.
Koreans take their cleansing routine pretty seriously. Most makeups have oil as ingredient so using an oil-based cleanser first will guarantee it will be removed. If you really can’t allot time in the morning to double-cleanse I suggest doing it at night-time instead. In the morning you can opt for just a regular cleanser.
Second Cleansers I Highly Recommend
Avon 360° Illuminating White Foam Cleanser
This is one of the best second cleansers I’ve tried. The Avon 360° Illuminating White Foam Cleanser not only thoroughly washes off impurities, excess oils and rough skin, but also removes dead skin cells to make skin refreshed, supple and prepared for followed products.
Beauty Fix Detoxifying Facial Scrub
Although this is considered as an exfoliator, I still use it to double cleanse every now and then. Mostly on situations where I notice the texture of my skin is sandy, or I just want to pamper with a face mask, this is the second cleanser I use. This Beauty Fix Detoxifying Facial Scrub has activated charcoal and natural exfoliating ingredients. It is surprisingly not harsh on the skin and reveals a hydrated skin after use.

Nivea Extra White Repair Face Scrub
Same logic as above, I use this Nivea Extra White Face Scrub to double cleanse. I have used this before and it’s a mud foam which I totally love to the nth level. It gives whiter complexion, minimizes the appearance of pores and revives the skin exposed to dullness due to constant makeup application. What I like most about this product is how it leaves my face squeaky clean after use.
Olay Natural White Foam Cleanser
The Olay Natural White Foaming Cleanser is a foaming gel formula that helps in removing sebum, dust, dirt and makeup residues to help keep your skin looking radiant. Unlike the other second cleansers this come in a transparent gel-like appearance. Though this product doesn't have microbeads I love that it still give me a super squeaky clean face after use. It doesn't dry my skin and has a pleasant smell. If you have the budget you may want to try the Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Cleanser instead.
Celeteque Brightening Facial Wash
This is the second cleanser I am using day and night the most. I really love it and works perfectly when it comes to double cleansing. Celeteque Brightening Facial Wash is created for lightening dark spots and correcting uneven skin tones in as early as 1 week. The product definitely cleanses and washes away dirt, sebum, and other impurities.
Overall
I am happy to have discovered the double cleansing early on and it definitely changed the way I clean my face. Yes, it may be a tedious process but it works well.
