Goodbye July, Hello August 2020

It's time to recap what happened for the month of July 2020 with side stories here and there plus things to look forward to in the coming month.

July 2020 was a bittersweet month for me and my family. It was great that for the first two weeks of the month, my Dad’s fever went down and he was able to take proper medicine. He is also currently dieting as advised by the doctor to avoid any other complications.

Sadly, we experienced a major loss with my Lola Conching’s death. It’s something we didn’t expect to happen. Although my Lola was already 79, there was still a part of me that hopes she will live forever. It was much more heartbreaking since it happened during the pandemic when we can’t give her a proper funeral.

But as hard as it is, we had to move on.

Due to the reason above, I felt like July 2020 wasn’t as productive as the past couple of months. I really took the month slow. I didn’t blog that much and didn’t even make progress for the goals I have set for the month.

And it’s okay.

There’s always a new month, a new opportunity to be productive.

Here’s January 2020, February 2020, March 2020, April 2020, May 2020 and June 2020 in case you missed them.

Lola’s Death

My Lola Conching passed away in mid-July and it’s sad that even though the cause of her death is not COVID-19 we still need to follow the protocol and it includes cremation. Having no proper funeral for her still brings me tears and regret.

Lola Conching was a huge part of my childhood. And although we didn’t spend that much time together since she didn’t live with us, I will always be eternally grateful for those moments we had as a family. My Lola was a strong independent woman. I owe her a lot.

Family Reunion

My Lola’s burial was the first time I went out of the house. It also served as a mini family reunion with representatives from each family coming together. Right after we laid to rest the ashes of my Lola, we spent a lunch together in Din Tai Fung at Serendra. We were allowed to get in but we had to sit in separate tables. After lunch, me and my sisters spent some more time over coffee and visiting Fully Booked. I ended up buying two new books - Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and And Then They Were None by Agatha Christie.  Excited to read the books soon.

MakeSense Facebook Live

Something exciting that happened for the month of July 2020 is my Facebook Live event with MakeSense. I was asked to be part of the panelist on the topic of productivity. It was a meaningful event as the topic is very close to my heart as well. I talk a lot about productivity specially on this blog and to be able to impart my knowledge to others is such a great opportunity.

Blog Update

For the month of July 2020 I wasn’t as active as I should be in terms of blogging. From the last two months where I consistently publish 10-12 blog posts a month, I only did 8 posts for the month of July. Still, I consider this number as high already compared to my previous months.

If you’re curious how I find time to consistently blog with a full time job, you may want to read these two posts - My Blogging Essentials and How to Plan Your Blog Content in Advance

Here are the posts I made in July 2020:

July 2020 Favorites

Beauty - For July 2020, I’ve been trying out some new skincare products. I finally bought the Luxe Organix AHA/BHA Face Wash which I’ve been really loving so far. I use this instead of the Safeguard Soap in Lemon which I mentioned on my latest skincare routine

I’ve also been using Nivea Moisturizing Cream as my night cream and it has been helping my face a lot. I will surely create a post soon on the new skincare products I’ve been using.

Movie or Show - For July 2020, I finished two well-known series - Sky Castle and Moon Embracing the Sun.

Sky Castle was such an amazing drama that doesn’t involve much of a loveline but instead more of a family story. I love how each episode turned out and how the story progresses over time. It was really an intense drama and no wonder it got really popular as well.

Moon Embracing the Sun is the drama I watched while waiting for further episodes of It’s Okay, Not to Be Okay. I am currently obsessed with Kim Soo Hyun! Upon searching for his past works I saw Moon Embracing the Sun and wanted to see how he acted as a fictional King of Joseon era.

And he was really great. I also watched his movie Secretly, Greatly.

Finally, the Season 1 of Snowpiercer series is done. Wow, what a plot twist for the last two episodes. I also finished The Morning Show and Defending Jacob both are exclusive series on Apple TV.

Song - For song choice I’ve been replaying Stray Kid’s God’s Menu.

Looking Forward Next Month

For the first week of August, I will be reporting to work on site. It was a sudden order from the management but we have no choice but to follow. Of course, part of me is hoping I can just work at home, especially now that the COVID-19 cases have been rising on a  daily basis.

August is also the month that my parents and my youngest sister will be going to the province for good. This is a major change for the family.

I hope you are staying safe with your loved ones.

Thank you for reading.
