Choosing Your Blog Niche and Blog Name

When I introduced the the TIPS on this blog I knew that the topic of blogging will be part of what I want to discuss. Blogging have been more than just a hobby for me and I love that now that I am almost going 2years actively blogging in IzzaGlino as well as SavingsPinay I have a whole lot of experience that I can easily share.

I spent two topics letting you know How to Create a Blog so today I will be discussing how do you choose your blog niche and create your blog name. When I started my blog I never read or had someone advice me on what niche to choose as well as what name to push through but I am very happy that I made the right decision.

Definition of Terms

Blog Niche is the act of creating a blog with the intent of using it to market to a particular niche market. It may count that once you create a blog you are certainly going for a certain niche especially if you have a blog category of choice. I for example have IzzaGlino as a beauty and lifestyle blog thus my niche is beauty and lifestyle (that’s the market where I am finding my audience). SavingsPinay is for business and finance niche thus the name of the blog suggests.

Blog Name refers to what you want to your blog to be called. Just like any regular name this will be the main identification of you blog that will also appear on the domain/URL.

Choosing a Blog Niche

1. Choose via your own intent. What do you really love to write about?! Some love beauty products so they end up going on a beauty niche. Others write most about movie reviews so the niche falls into film and arts. If you go to www.topblogs.com.ph, Philippines blog ranking website you can find the different blogging niche currently available.

  • Web Development & Design
2. Choose via your goals. You may have researched how other bloggers generate additional income via their blog so why not do choose a niche that you can have your income goals. I’ve shared in a SavingsPinay blog post how I’m focusing on doing two niche blogs that are still near in what I am passionate about but the main goal is to sooner or later generate revenue.

3. Choose via your available resources. You may not see this option coming but yes, no matter how much you are passionate on a certain blog category is or your blogger goals are if you don’t have the available resources then you might end up just wasting all your effort. I once thought of creating a blog on web design specifically on revamping a blog template but since I do not have enough resources and I have yet to be knowledgeable I end up putting it on my someday maybe list.

Choosing Your Blog Name

Choosing a blog name is simpler than choosing the niche. For me the reason why you need to choose the niche first is so that it will be easier to name the blog after. If you have a variety of topics to blog about then I suggest go with your name. For example I did izzaglino.blogspot.com since my blog is far more than the usual beauty blog. I also have other topics that just fall in the blog name better.

You can also be more specific with your blog especially if you have a focused genre. SavingsPinay for example is very focused on financial posts  thus I chose a name that will relate way better.  I also don’t post anything that doesn’t fall in the blog name and niche that I chose.

Remember to always relate your blog name in the posts that you will publish. Your blog name is the very first branding that you can use. Refrain from choosing a name that has the same sound with other blog especially if you are not associated with. You want to remain unique when it comes to your name, right?! The same with your blog name.

If you decided to create a blog or you are a blogger then feel free to comment in the comment section below your Blog Name, URL and Niche. I’d love to find more bloggers and network with you!
